The engineer Oskar Barnack was a German optical engineer, precision mechanic, industrial designer, and the father of 35 mm photography.While working for Leitz, then a microscope manufacturer, the master entineer and photography enthusiast invented the original Ur-Leica (Leica I): the first precision miniature camera to become available commercially.

He and Leica are represented through the photographic lens itself.
