Joseph Beuys

Joseph was a monochrome artist, so in one of the rooms at the Torel Avantgarde Hotel, in the center of Porto, the design of the room that represents him is in black and white.
The lamps are green due to the myth that surrounds its history: while a pilot during the war, the plane crashed and was healed with herbs by the people who found it after this accident.

About The Artist...
Joseph Beuys was a Fluxus artist, a performance artist, a sculptor, an installation artist, a graphic artist, an art theorist, and a pedagogue.
His extensive work draws on concepts from Humanism, Social Philosophy, and Anthroposophy. It culminates in his “broad definition of art” and the idea of social sculpture as “Gesamtkunstwerk”, in which he claimed a creative and participatory role in the formation of society and politics.
Beuys believed that everyone could make art.
